I would say the animation is absolutely intriguing...but there are so many things wrong with it. Every single time I got close to being ok with the characters they did something to throw me off, the ears, the unnecessary need to lift their leg up to the sky and show us their non-existent genitals, the synchronizing tails...
I saw it in english with Spanish subtitles and you can easily say you get 2 movies in one. They are so different.
However I see how the musical came to be one of the most famous in broadway and all over the US or maybe UK? I bet seeing it live is more enjoyable and also the costumes do a great job. But honestly I couldn't appreciate the tap or the dances since it seemed all fake because of all the CGI.
So with that being said, if you hold cats very close to your heart because you played it in your high school, your grandma was part of her community drama club and helped in it, or whatever personal connection you might have with the play... you might actually like it and give it a 5 star review.
However for the 98% percent of non-theater kids all around the world I wouldn't recommend it honestly... If you want to see it for the cringe, it is absolutely worth it just do it respectfully for the 2 persons that are in the movies actually tearing up.
I give Cats 2 out of 5 stars.
