I’ve played every Resident Evil game in the series (multiple times). I have been playing the games since day one! RE8 is one of the best game in the series. It’s a mix between RE4 and RE2 remake. Great pacing, coherent story (rare), quality scares (compared to the series itself). IMO it’s the 3rd best title in the series, after the above mentioned. PS: if you like the action side of the game, you’ll love mercenaries
