I am yet to watch The Final Cut of the first Blade Runner film. But i figured out i needed to know about the setting and backdrop before venturing to watch this flick. Glad that i did my research and also watched the 3 shorts that were put out.
The film is haunting, intriguing, very well-made and very, very thought-provoking. However people from the current generation (my generation) have no clue about the Blade runner universe and if they haven't the time or energy to look it up, then they will find this movie boring, long-drawn and tune out from what happens on screen halfway. They will feel clueless about 75% of the movie.
Even after 2 days of reading up and research i still had to google up a lot of things during the Intermission. So those who find it boring, i totally get it. (And frankly much of the entire Casino sequence could have been chopped away in the editing room.)The length is a real issue. I was desperate to get done with it in the last 15-20 minutes.
I also found Jared Leto's portrayal of Niander Wallace very artificial and annoying.Put me off. Apart from these two negatives, the film is magnificent to look at and has a very interesting premise. On the whole i'd give it 4.0/5 stars. Minus .5 for 20-25 minutes of editing that the film needs and minus .5 for Jared leto's performance.
