Another excellent Maurice Gee. Captures 20th C Kiwi life perfectly, beautifully written and with a gruesome secret that Mr Gee does so well.

Loved this book. Demonstrated the American dream psyche to a confused nonAmerican like me. It gave me an understanding of how Trump supporters (Nick in the novel) think whereas previously I was completely baffled About why anyone would vote for someone who does not have your best interests at heart and indeed has nothing in common with you. That you might admire and what he represents, making money on your own terms etc. and as always, Kingsolver can turn a phrase beautifully.
