Most of the one star reviews for The Last of Us Part II come from people whose brains have been rotted by CinemaSins style nitpicking and politically absolutist thinking. These are not individuals who understand what art is or at least not smart enough to engage with it meaningfully.
If you take a moment to read those reviews, then actually play the game like a normal person who can still feel joy, you’ll quickly see there’s no connection between what they’re saying and what the game really is.
Every action in the story makes sense, except Mel going on patrol while pregnant, that was just dumb. But overall, the characters are well written and performed, the story is beautiful, the emotional moments hit hard, the gameplay is a blast, and there’s so much genuine enjoyment to be had.
The only real “sin” this game commits is having the impossible task of following a beyond perfect 10/10 masterpiece.
