The world that Bhansali has created For those saying it is nowhere similar to actual Heeramandi or the courtesans of those times- firstly there is already a disclaimer in beginning that it is a fictitious representation of story. Secondly, it is not a documentary but a movie and that too SLB's. So, extravagant set and costumes will definitely be part of it to make the watching experience larger than life. These red light areas and their stories inspired him to make the series and he did full justice. Also to point out when you say that the actual courtesans (Tabayaf's) did not look like the heroines who played it; please see real images of Gangubai( who looks very average) and how beautiful Alia looks portraying her in the film. The beauty of each of the heroines in this film is an added bonus, while what takes the cake is their impeccable performance. Specially the performances of Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Indresh Malik, Jayati Bhatia and Sanjeeda Sheikh are the ones which will be noticed and most talked about because each one of these played a completely different role and actually comes as a surprise package. Only Sanjay Leela Bhansali can make it all happen! Only him.

I bow down before Pakistani dramas. One after one I have watched so many dramas and every time I have the same word for them, "Masterpiece". May be for some section of women in our society today esp. the so called feminist, this drama is a misfit. But I want them to watch this as story of Shehwar. And we all know there are so many Shehwar's in our world, country, society, house and inside us. I am an independant working feminist too, and I was moved deeply with this series. Shehwar is what, an essence of women is.
