8/10
Without a doubt, I have enjoyed this film immensly. Though I felt the finally of some characters was unsatisfying and the relationship made around it was thrown in there, the film of course has it's nice qualities. One being that the usually just like persona of Xaxier was greatly tested in this film. I saw comments regarding how there wasn't any character developement and I just can't agree with that. The act of Xavier and Jean rediscovering or just flat out discovering themselves was very apparent. The film was also more sane in compareson with it's prequals. The acting was also raw and got me sniffeling and cheering and what not in the course of each scene. Understandably, I haven't read the comics so my opinion is left to what I've seen acted out. I know full heartedly the rage and unsatisfaction of a movie not coming out like it's basis of construction, but my point of view is with the dominant audience of spectators who hadn't read the comics unfortunetly. The film was wonderful though and didn't give me a moment of boredom or exasperation.
Granted, there are issues about this movie and its story that are apparent to most of the audience, it's no different from its prequils. What I mean by that is the whole X-Men franchise is wac thus producing quite the amount of plot holes. Those holes being where characters show up in the entirety of the X-Men franchise and how that world essentially unravels. I feel that if all the x-Men movies fell into each other more smoothely, they would defenitely get a better run. In other words, the chronological order in which these films are released seemed to mess up the individual movies. We had Apocalypse come before Dark Pheonix which came after Logan and that makes a mess of my understanding of what the heck is going on in mutant reality. Due to the release schedule of these films, it definetly put plot holes in the entirety of this franchise. These plot holes dealling with where characters come and go and how they play out in each film. Namely Raven in regards to Apocalypse and Dark Pheonix and more suddely Quick Silver. The director went on in some interviews that he had written the story for Dark Pheonix years ago and though that may put a nice luster on the film, it hardly benefits it I feel. That's because it makes the other movie alienate away from this film like all the other X-Men movies. It's like a bin of magnites that are trying to push away from each other, but there's just not enough room to let that happen.
All in all, I love the X-Men and really enjoyed Dark Pheonix. The problems associated with it can't soley be due to this film, but just the whole franchise in general. They should have been plotted a lot better and simply just discussed or engineered more carefully.
