First off, I Loved the books (altho the third one left alot to be desired) so Im not sure about certain aspects of episode one. Some big differences. In the books, the test subjects are supposed to be "monsters". Massive, hideous, glow in the dark barely human demigods. Not just "typical vampires" with fangs and red eyes. This is a BIG part of the plot. Now to my main gripe, Amy is just not ethereal enough. I don't care that they changed her ethnicity as that's not important to the overall plot but in the books her personality is quite different to how she's portrayed here. even before the experiments she's quite strange and distant. She's Mysterious in the books. Animals sense something weird about her. The girl in the TV show is just a normal kid. This isn't the Amy from the books (think a female version of the kid from 6th sense without the ghosts). Couple of characters that are important to later events are missing too. (A nun, a weird paedo guy) I suspect the nuns part will be replaced by one of the scientists from episode one. Acting was great and maybe some of these missing elements from the books plot will come into the series as it progresses. I'm worried the plot will stay in the present but I suppose that would make sense for series one. For those that don't know, The majority of the plot of the book is set 80-100 years in the future. I don't know how they can stretch Amy and Walgast being chased by the bad guys for a whole series as this is a very small part of the first book. This makes me worry for the future of this adaptation and what direction it is going to go. Will take a few more episodes to really judge if this series will do justice to the books....I have my doubts tbh. What I don't want is walking dead (which I hate) with vampires instead of zombies. The books deserve more then that.
