Jawan is a mass masala movie and that is exactly what it delivered. Watching this one in theatre is a lifetime experience.
This is one of the those movies, which has a great replay value and a movie I want to watch over and over again. While I am a fan of SRK, his films over the last decade were mostly hit or miss. I can recall liking Don 2 and Fan from his last decade. While Chennai Express and Happy New Year were ok and did great numbers, they were still below average movies. People had grown tired of SRK same old act of Lover boy or Romantic hero.
SRK reinvented himself with Pathaan, but here he just stands out as the superstar that he is. It has been so long that I enjoyed an SRK film this much. Pathaan was also entertaining but did not blow me away but Jawan just has that flair to it. SRK's role as Vikram also opens up the realm of possibility of SRK playing an old man in his films, much like Amitabh did.
Nayan Tara had a good performance but she got sidetracked in the second half. Vijay Sethupati was a convincing villain and had a menacing presence but I feel he could have benefited from more screen time. Deepika nails it in her special appearance. All the girls in Azad's squad deliver great performance. Sanjay Dutt was also good in his cameo.
Songs are really good but not great. Challeya is my favorite among them all but Not Ramaiya Vaisawaya and Zinda Banda ha are also good.
In conclusion Jawan is a masala film, if you try to watch it expecting an intelligent film with a brilliant narrative and a brilliant story telling then maybe it is not for you. If you go into it expecting a mass entertainer, you will be blown away.
