You haven’t seen the extent to how filmmaking can pinpoint our common humanity until you have seen this one. Adam and Harry are lonely and lovely. They are lost and they are wanting and willing to be found. We have all felt a sense of regret. This film can teach us that regret is a form of grief and even when it feels impossible to let go, it is going to be okay. We’re okay. I will process this beautiful masterpiece for a long time. This is how art informs society; and, society informs art.

Ryan Murphy’s lazy musical could have been good, if it were produced by someone else. The bold primary colors and high school bells ringing at the change of scene, the weird side stories that warrant zero audience buy-in, and the cliche dialogue hardly do justice to the issues that really matter, in this narrative. I can’t believe the talented cast signed up for this. Were they contract bound?
