The film is light and fun entertainment, not a bid for the Baftas. Some parts are downright silly. (Tom and the would be assassin was just daft). Some parts are laugh out loud hilarious (Mosely in front of the royals), some are heartfelt and true to the land. Daisy’s mini plot was surplus. Edith voiced some quite profound truths. Mary has no storyline whatsoever and Bates just stood there as a bit of mis-en-scene. I missed Downton but this movie would have been better off as another series. I’m still glad to have met with the whole fabulous cast again via screen.
