I loved it on the first viewing, loved it on the second. Ad Astra is a contemplative, beautiful space drama about the importance of humanity and one man's journey to see the importance of people and love as oppossed to other goals. The movie starts and ends with the line "I am focused on the essential to the exclusion of all else" and each time there is a widely different meaning. The growth that happens with Roy during the just over 2 hour run time is impressive. Films of much greater length have not told as compelling and thought provoking a tale. A divisive film for sure but one that I love and is near the top of my films of the year.
