If Michael bay wrote a book....
basically, morgenstern does a really good job of creating a world. The way she describes the circus really sucks you in, makes you feel like you’re there. You know exactly what it’d smell like, sound like, look like, you can feel the energy and almost taste it.... The parts where she talked about the circus reminds me of the way Rowling describes hogwarts. But the book could have been cut in half. The characters had no personality, you can’t relate to them at all, they’re mostly just props for the circus. Hence, the Michael bay reference. Morgenstern could have just taken us on a fantastical trip to the circus, instead of dragging us through 500+ pages (and I like long books). The tragedies felt half cocked and skimmed over, the love felt forced and out of place. Lots of missed opportunities here in the relationships and the characters. I appreciate the writing style, but I would have preferred this as a short story. 300 pages in I had no idea if it even had a plot.
