*SPOILERS* . . . . . . . I liked it up until the affair. It kind of ruined the whole setup for me because it made me like both main characters less. Everything was real and believable and a well made indie flick on a topic we rarely see portrayed in this raw manner. But that choice in the story took my empathy away for the main characters. Would have been 4 stars otherwise.

I’m addicted to this terrible show but I’m still gonna rate it how it is. Why in the world can they not find people who are quality humans with real communication skills who don’t yell over each other when there is an issue? How about a therapist on set? I believe the allegations completely, btw. Still gonna watch it damn it.

Brandon, please quit your day job. This is just awful, awful, awful. Bad acting, bad writing, bad everything. Please hire a real writer and director the next time you feel like producing a romcom.

Great film, but sadly lacking in intersectionality. While they are talking about invisible oppression, they fail to notice how many white people are talking in their own film. There is NO mention of non binary and trans filmmakers at all. And forget disabled filmmakers. This film could have done so much more.

I’m going to be generous with 3 stars, I’d say more like 2.5. The first half was great fun, and it set the story up so well. I was so happy to see Diane Weist! But once the mob stuff starts going it quickly deflates into first year at film school writing. Guns, goons, bodies.... big yawn. The writer put two lesbians at the head of the story, why exactly? Not the male gaze as it certainly wasn’t filmed that way, but it still seemed like a peculiar choice when everyone else they face is male. I wanted the little old lady to save herself. I saw everyone in the story as evil and wanted them all to suffer in the end. It seemed like the plot was “strong women get beaten down by men but just won’t stay down” but then she dies anyway so... what exactly are we supposed to walk away with? And side note, glorifying elder abuse is pretty disgusting as a plot vehicle.

For those who think the film was pretentious or unrealistic, you don’t know Russians or the Russian experience. This film shows what it means to be truly shell shocked. Not just by war, but by the culture which surrounds you. Films like this help me realize why my parents were so determined to leave. But it also helps me understand our inter generational trauma. When you’re surrounded by trauma so deep that you can’t even feel anything when your child dies, it’s an unimaginable level of emptiness. It’s only unrealistic if you’ve never lived that reality. It’s a heavy film, undoubtedly, but done well.

These cops don’t walk like cops. Cops don’t skitter, they walk slowly and with great intent and intimidation. These scenarios are also kind of off the wall and not believable. This show would have you think every cop shoots their gun on a daily basis. Is that true? I dunno, I like Nathon Fillion but this seems like another random drama just to fill up space. Are they going to address black lives matter, police brutality, racist training on the force? Or the futile attempt of cops trying to do good when they’re part of a broken system? I’m skeptical there’s any substance here so far.
