You'd have to be a truly ignorant person to not notice in the London episode when they do a trash clean up and talk about how terrible single use plastics... and in the next seen Zac is holding a single use plastic cup when walking with Ella on the street.
Performative wokeness is not going to solve our planet's problems. Neither is white saviorism or talking about the importance of indigenous peoples in Costa Rica without nearing from a single indigenous person- without letting them speak for themselves and stepping back so they can step up.
Darrin is not "just like" the people in Puerto Rico... not even close. I'm almost entirely certain that man can afford to replace his home and belongings, and while losing a home to fire is devastating, it's not the same magnitude and intensity of impact that the hurricanes have in Puerto Rico. And at least in California the state and federal governments have more means to respond.
I started out wanting to like this show but too much of it points out exactly what is wrong with the high-profile movement to stop climate change. Being sponsored by Visa and promoting consumerism over and over again is exactly the opposite of what we need to happen. We need people buying less, flying less, and we need white voices to relinquish power to the BIPOC that actually have the answers. If these folks were really committed to fighting against climate change, they would have not been so shortsighted and allowed all these egregious errors to make it into the over-produced, self-aggrandizing final cut.
