I was always a fan of He-man and loved the reboot in thr early 00s. So having loved Voltron's Netflix reboot, I decided to give it a go. I was never into the original She-ra (I was a fierce tomboy) but I must admit I much preferred this reboot. IMO, the original 80s She-ra and He-man are very dated, feeling wooden and much less vibrant in comparison to this beautifully animated world. (I really would love to see an updated Skeletor Netflix... )
Its very much a pilot season much like Voltron season 1 was, meaning it does feel a bit bare bones in parts. Despite this, I can see the potential for the future.
I will be watching future seasons and very mich enjoy most of the characters. I struggled with half of the first season of Voltron (it felt very rushed) but this feels like its much better paced. A few characters are annoying or a little bit over the top but I can get past that.
As long as it isnt forced in for the sake of being culturally relevant, LGBT elements could work well in this series, much like it did with Voltron. I can see the creators hinting at the topic in a few areas.
I'm also not one of those people that thinks that just because a series is aimed at a younger audience, it can get away with lower quality writing and character development. So while it's currently a little lacking, its worth giving a shot or at least waiting until a few more seasons come out if you need that to enjoy a series.
I'd still recommend the show and look forward to more. But seriously though, a He-man reboot too please Netflix.
