The writing was that of a stereotypical romcom: average. A catfish romance is an interesting topic as it poses moral dilemmas however, exploration of this topic was disregarded for common romcom tropes and overplayed clichés. Jimmy O Yangs performance however was surprisingly raw and sensitive which brought a depth to the character that was hard to find amidst the mediocre writing. This movie had the opportunity to be fresh and innovative, that opportunity was unfortunately negated for the same overplayed romcom format we’ve all grown much too accustomed to. 3/5 stars.
