There were a few funny moments in this picture that gave me a small chuckle. The problem for me is that Charles Addams actually worked with the writers and developers of the 1960's television version of the family. He gave his blessing to what the characters were and how they acted. If I'm not mistaken, the original show would have never been developed without his approval. That being said... I've been disappointed in every attempt to resurrect the Addams Family ever since. The silly claim that each movie is an attempt to capture the original cartoons/comics is just absurd. Sure, they stand on their own and are original but, so does the original TV series. This painfully self aware version of the Addams Family would be better suited for a Munsters reboot. It was the Munsters who were so self aware that they were crippled in their interactions with everyday people and consumed by what others thought. It was the Addams' that saw the good in everyone and couldn't help but like and want to help everyone that they came in contact with. There was never anything subversive about their intentions, just a desire to see everyone as happy and living the good life as they themselves were. If this movie serves as an introduction to a true American gem and gets people to become interested in and discover Charles Addams and his creations then great. If this was intend ended as some sort of definitive take on Charles Addams' work then it completely fell short.
