Stunning visuals, excellent cast; unfortunately the script is not up to par. Turning the wizard into a seducer and have all the witches simp over him, an unlikable man, that has absolutely no character development over 2 hours of film, is flat writing.
Mila Kunis as the Wicked Witch of the West is excellent, the dainty china girl and the winged monkey are adorable, but the script lacks so much in terms of character depth and development. The Cardinal Witches are supposed to be powerful, intelligent women -Theodora in particular, deserved more than the ‘scorned woman seeks revenge’ plot. A story of betrayal that entails the origin of one of the most iconic villains in history could’ve been written without falling into demeaning stereotypes and without reducing all the witches to one dimensional characters.
