Interesting twist but unsettling execution. The actors do their part well, the set design definitely fits, but there just isn’t enough to make this movie really worth it for me. For most of the movie, I was just hoping for it to end, not because it was really bad dialogue or cheesy jump scares but because it was truly just upsetting to watch.
Horror/thriller movies occupy an interesting genre where you, as the viewer, want viewer to be unsettled, grossed out, or terrified. However, this moves more into the uncomfortable arena, which for some may be a journey they are looking for. For me even as a horror junkie, it was just too hard to watch. It felt like I was watching abuse take place and there was no hope of redemption for the main characters. Yes, you root for them to escape, and yes, you are motivated to continue to watch just so you can see how it all ends. The problem is that even when it’s all over, you’re left just feeling sick, like you left a wounded child alone on the street and just wishing it the best for its future. So, unless you are looking for a movie to show the depravity of human nature and it’s affect on two innocent girls, I’d avoid it all together.
