This is the 16th Louise Penny inspector Gamache that I have read, she is one of my favorite authors because she goes deep into the human soul and I can always find some nuggets of truth that reverberate in my own life. She creates word pictures whether it’s Montreal or three Pines or Paris. However, this wasn’t my favorite book for a couple of reasons: First. and this is a criticism I have of all of the books but it’s particularly true of this one, inspector Gamache and his wife are far too saintly, they never seem to fuss at each other or at their children including the one that acted like a jerk through most of the book. I have been married for 50 years and I have four kids and that level of patience is unbelievable; the second reason is the setting. I miss Three Pines and the eccentric characters. The characters in this book seemed far more one dimensional.
