It's really a 3.5 stars because of the music, especially in the first half (until Paris at least) of the film. I had to mute the songs. Didn't work at all with the flow of the film and I honestly have no tolerance for vulgar lyrics filled with the N word and F bombs. How more people not offended boggles my mind.
This movie goes past my tolerance limit of F bombs BUT the acting was superbe and it's a beautiful story about complicated family relationships, expectations, dreams and disappointments. LOVED the actual story and LOVED Elijah's mother's character. Her lines had spot-on delivery. She didn't understand but wanted to support her son. So much love. The kind of mom we all want. LOVED her and it was beautifully portrayed. Some of the dialog is so fast but so clever. Glad we had captions!
We are wine lovers and are French-American so it was of interest to us. Of course it's unrealistic (my husband used to run blind tastings for those exams) but we didn't focus on that.
If it weren't for the music and swearing, I'd be recommending this to many people. The story is beautifully portrayed by these talented actors and great directing.
