like many others after seeing the preview i was really looking forward to this and i was there on the opening day. what a total letdown. nothing happens for the first one and three quarters of an hour. great photography but the way it is presented jumping from scene to scene is terrible. as for a supposed prequel it does not match up. in the originals the plot made it clear damien was born of a jackal not the daughter of satan. and there was definitely no mention of "the twist" that has obviously been made to allow for a sequel. damien is grabbed by his mother and she threatens to murder him? what happened with the daggers that were the only thing that could kill the antichrist.? boney m's music turning up in 1971? really? a p**s poor movie. i will give it one star for the female lead actor and the actor who played father brennan with an uncanny resemblance to the late patrick troughton. i was just glad when it finished.

I have just watched it and trying to figure out what it was about. a nice snapshot of England in the forties but the story of the glueman and the pilgrimage to Canterbury cathedral was just confusing. perhaps a second viewing is needed.
