This is one of the most visually rich and imaginative movies I've ever seen. I even paid to watch it again. The spaceship taking 5000 people to a new interplanetary home is so beautifully rendered that it is like a fifth character in the narrative. Immense and graceful, it makes the starship Enterprise look like a toy (sorry, trekkies). My favorite amenity was the swimming pool which bulged beyond the hull. giving the effect of swimming laps in space.
This is what science fiction should be: assume the science, then construct the fiction. As usual,. of course, there's a glitch in the science, and this is what drives the plot -- along with a story of star-crossed (pun intended) lovers and a Sleeping Beauty unwillingly awakened by a lonely prince who commands all he surveys but can't live without her. The screenwriters even named her Aurora, as in the Disney version of the tale. A gem of a movie, affecting and believable.
