Tara Hoffman

This is one of the best books I've ever read. Robert Thier is an excellent writer who brings stories to life like no other. The characters in this story are like none I've seen before, and the excellence of their author brings them to life, making you love them as the story reads on. 5/5 I would rate this higher if I could. Amazing, Suspenseful, Intimate, Heartbreaking, and most of all, INTERESTING. Thank you, Sir Rob. 😍😍😍

It was a boring book that seemed as though she was just asking for pity. The main character (herself) annoyed me quite a bit throughout the story and I found myself just being bored with it because I had no connection with the main character, I had no way to really know what she was feeling/going through. I think that one of the main faults of this book is that it's just bad writing. I get that she wanted to tell her story and make herself known but I think that you can only really do that if you can captivate a readers attention and not give them another typical story about a child refugee who had to travel a long way and who had to deal with more than her fair share of bad stuff. I hated that the dates kept switching from 2006 to like 1994 and stuff because I couldn't really keep track very well of what was happening when. I also didn't really know how she felt about some of the characters like Claire. I never really got a clear image of Claire and what she was really like because there were so many different things said about her that I didn't know what to think about who she was. I was confused about her throughout the whole story, about her goals, about her thoughts, about everything. I also didn't understand Clemantine's relationship with Mrs. Thomas. Mrs. Thomas seemed like a very very nice woman that made a good effort to make her comfortable and safe n\and give her the opportunities all children should have. Yet, Clementine never seemed to form a real connection with her and didn't seem to know her very well either. She always focused on the cynical part of everything, rather than being grateful for the things Mrs. Thomas provided for her. This relationship seems to me to be one that you should keep and that they should've kept in touch but Clemantine never touched on that and she seemed to have a very formal and distant tone when referring to Mrs. Thomas in the story. Like ti was just another sad part of her life. It seemed to me that this was her saving grace but apparently not. Overall, I was bored and themes were repeated so many times it was redundant and vague. 2/10 wouldn't recommend. A book I would reccommend though, that seems to be a better version than this is "A Land of Permanent Goodbyes by Atia Abawi.
