The Callisto Protocol is a very good game. With that being said, it should only be purchased on sale, since it only lasts approximately 12-13 hours. The graphics are excellent and the story is good, although the plot does fall into predictable tropes more than a few times. Combat is fun but can suffer from recovery animations, causing you to get stuck in a death loop.
You won’t get enough upgrades to power up every weapon and ability, so you’ll need to choose carefully.
I did get tired of being with an NPC and suddenly something collapsed, separating us. That scenario happens at least half a dozen times.
If a sequel is planned, I would recommend expanding the gameplay to the action/adventure sweet spot of about 20-24 hours, speeding up animation recovery and reloading times and writing a story with fewer predictable story beats.
If you can pick up this game for about $35 or less, you will be a happy camper. I got this game as a PlayStation Plus Premium subscriber. I enjoyed it.
