Gibson's portrayal of Riggs, a slightly deranged cop who's on the verge of committing suicide, is strong enough to save this movie from falling into the trap of "mainstream pop-corn buddy cop action film". Glover's turn as Murtaugh may have been cheesy at times but nonetheless, still provided pretty good entertainment.

The best version among other great versions (Brando and Gable). Gibson's presence alone is enough to make this movie stand above the greats. Strong performances from the cast --Hopkins, Day-Lewis and Neeson, but there is something so effortlessly compelling about Gibson's ability as an actor that explains exactly why he got top-billing. So if you're looking for an example as to why Gibson is so widely recognized as one of the greatest actors (and directors) of all time, look no further.

Mel Gibson is truly one of the world's greatest actors (not to mention, also one of the world's greatest directors) of all time. This film is unmissable. Loved everything about it. Added this to my favorite films. Hope to see more Mel Gibson films soon! Absolutely can't wait to go to the theaters again just to watch his work! The Greatest of All Time!

Exceptionally acted. Both Mel Gibson and Piper Laurie were as natural as can be. Stunningly beautiful film. Perfect.
