Looking at the reviews, I’m baffled how many people thought this movie was great. Given the top-level cast and all the promised cameos and Easter eggs, I had high hopes for it, but was sadly disappointed. I fell asleep part way through my first watch attempt, and when I came back for a second stab at it, it was just so awful I couldn’t make myself watch the whole thing. Never laughed one single time. Every one of these cast members has been brilliant in some other vehicle, so for me this was a sad waste of some singular talent. Giving it one very rusted star.

I didn’t know going in that this was a remake, but as soon as they said “Beaumont Sur Mer” I figured it out and the rest of the movie was fairly predictable. My daughter, who never saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, got quite a few laughs but, for me, it was just mildly amusing. Although I always enjoy Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway had a few moments, I never thought they quite equalled the comedic chemistry we got from Michael Caine and Steve Martin in the original. Some of the plot threads got a bit lost and I felt like if you hadn’t seen DRS, certain parts just wouldn’t make sense. It was an ok way to kill an evening, but I was kind of glad I had the Costco cheap movie pass.
