After having played many of Team Bloober’s previous horror titles I was skeptical. As enjoyable as they were, they always seemed to be lacking somewhere. Either with the lack of scares or slightly janky gameplay. How wrong I was to doubt them. While the ageing PS2 original is a classic in its own right, the creative team behind this remake have added a vast swathe of improvements in every way. The graphics for starters are nothing short of stunning - in the same way Capcom revitalised the Resident Evil games in looks, TB have done an incredible job reimagining the misty, rusting, squelching, dark, and windswept town of Silent Hill. The sound design adds to the uneasy and sometimes downright terrifying atmosphere, ramping up the tension, not just through your speakers, but through the Dual Sense controller audio and haptics. Is this now the best way to enjoy James’ descent into madness? Only time will tell, but I think it’s going to be hard to go back
