While the movie may have been over-hyped just a tad, it was well worth the wait. Lin Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt shine in their roles and so does the rest of the cast. However, the songs were kind of mixed. They were either pretty good or pretty average. They weren’t like the original, but they had a uniqueness to them. (I started rewriting what I said about the songs being terrible because when you listen to them a second time, they grow on you. However, I have to be honest) “Trip A Little Light Fantastic” was cool, until it became a little repetitive after a while. “Can you imagine that?” was exciting and magical. “The Place Where Lost Things Go” was beautiful and metaphorical. It reminded me of “Feed The Birds” and the melancholy sadness that it brought forth. From this song, I actually began to question Mary Poppin’s past and if she had lost someone too.
Other than that, i was very impressed. The visuals were incredible and still brought some elements from the previous film. The animation was on point and it felt very magical. The plot was kind of obvious, but it was a kid’s movie, so I get it.
All in all, it was a great film that shared magic, excitement, and joy for all to hear.
