This is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen on a screen... I love Stephen King, love Joe Hill. Yes, they’re not necessarily the easiest writers to adapt to film, but holy cow, this is unwatchable. It makes the Dark Tower film look like a triumph, which is a bold statement. It’s honestly shocking, especially coming from a network like AMC. Of any books between either writer, this one lends itself to a multi season television format, actually relatively easily. They could have gone chapter to chapter more or less coherently for anyone telling Vic’s story in a 2 to 3 part arc and done so in a visually appealing style for low budget making money hand over fist... built characters and motivations, and told a story that was odd but very engaging. Instead we’ve got some hack splicing together about a dozen story lines in an incoherent manner that only glosses over the core story in the most fleeting of ways, congealing about 20 years into one or two. The camera angles and editing are atrocious at best. Half of it looks like it was shot on an iPhone. The storylines ditch anything that moves the story along. The acting is upsettingly poor, like legit shocking from ALL involved. I’m not sure where this can go to improve, but a few in I’m saying it’s a blight on modern television.
