Started off clever and interesting, but the plot portrayal (I know it's based on the game, but I don't know how well this movie represents the actual game) turned cheesy. There were many inconsistencies, plot holes, and just bad acting in general (I'm looking at you, Lucy). I loved Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, and the animations were incredible. Really, they just didn't do enough with what they had. With a world full of Pokemon, cool moves and abilities, etc., they showed very little diversity in Pokemon, lack of knowledge for how Pokemon work in the game/show universe, and didn't do nearly as much as they could have as far as including PCs, potions, items, and that sort of thing. I get that they're trying to appeal to a wider audience to get more views, but they really could have demonstrated more knowledge of the subject. All in all, Pikachu was great, the plot turned cheesy and poorly represented, and too many inconsistencies and plot holes to name. Go see it if the theater has discounted tickets, but don't waste your money otherwise.
