First, “A Star is Born” was an American movie developed in the 1950s. Then, Bollywood made 2 box office hit movies developed from this American movie....Aashiqi and Aashiqi 2.
I just watched Aashiqi 2, and this version of “A Star is Born” pales in comparison. If I had watched this movie first, I would not have watched Aashiqi 2 since in this movie, the character and plot development was poor.
When Jackson, as a famous singer, performed his first concert, his drunkenness and drug abuse he was struggling with should have been clearly emphasized on stage. The interactions he had with others as a result of this needed to be better developed also.
Then, Jackson meets Ally, who works in a bar as a singer, and his drunken state is not emphasized there. Instead, there is an instantaneous sexual tension very apparent which should have only been hinted at there and then developed as he helped her train to become a better singer. Instead, his admiration for her singing abilities and his desire to help her rise to stardom needed to be the emphasis.
As she was training to become a famous singer, simultaneously the plot could intertwine her rising to stardom, their extreme attraction that developed, and all his problems that drugs and alcoholism caused.
The singing in the movie was excellent.
I do think a very important message is emphasized better at the end: alcoholism and or drug addiction and depression are deadly.
