This film fell completely flat. They try to come off like they're giving you tightly held tech secrets, but everything they shared about the tech companies and how they operate is common held knowledge. I don't argue against this. What's absurd is that this movie is telling you that you have no free will and choice because of tech company algorithms. Even your opinions are utterly controlled by social media causing a divide in society (as if you don't ever read anything that challenges your previous opinions or beliefs whether it be in the real world or social media). Also, you can't have the will to be on your phone less and interact with others more because the tech companies have made it so. It's not up to you to change. Total nihilistic BS.
You most certainly have the choice over how you spend your time and what you share on social media but they weren't interested in making that the positive message of the movie. You can learn how to use your phone responsibly, and keep your kids off of social media until they're mature enough. This has not altered my approach to use social media sparingly. Felt like a waste of time to me.
