The main character, is really annoying, but fascinating. She does improve towards the end of the first and later books. I must say, as I read it, it does remind me of the Divergent series, a dystopia world...Violet was Tris, Laden was Four, the training, and easy loss of life, the physical tests etc.
But yes there are no dragons in Divergent
