One of the best TV series I have ever seen. Up there with the greatest. The photography is I think the most beautiful I have ever seen ( and I speak as a Film Noir fan), acting superb, location's stunning. Have seen 4 episodes, don't want it to end.

Excellent film, that stands up really well even today. Beautiful photography and script. Heston is OK as Gordon but never quite convinces. The battle scenes are well shot (feel sorry for the horses involved!), and the location photography is superb
Olivier in blackface wouldn't go down too well today, but it is by no means a gung ho Imperialist movie, quite the opposite really. Don't suppose they will ever make films like this again thank God they made them.then.

A magnificent, if disturbing, film
Proof one again of the brilliance of Attenborough and John Hurt. Fleischers direction is perfectly suited to the story. Cook's photography is superb. Don't watch for a feel.good night in but if you love great direction photography and superlative acting this is for you.
