The two stars are mainly for the political view this movie stemmed on. Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor, did a marvelous and memorable performance however the plot was very shallow. In fact, there is no plot. Just the every day pure madness of a man who suffers from mental illness and eventually spirals out of control. Mental illness is something that I love is being addressed in this film, the fact most poverty stricken men and women cannot afford the right therapy and medication needed to live happy constructive lives. Therefore it is time to stop sweeping these issues under the rug. Even though this film does not show a good example on how to handle these worldwide issues for obvious reasons it is understandable that this is the very point of Arthur becoming the joker, as this is an origin story. I only wish we could have seen more of him coming into his own then the needless scenarios that never actually existed. Good performance, nice message, but I still can't tell you what I watched for sure.
