I've been reading a lot of reviews and seeing lots of glitch videos about 2K20...and it occurs to me that everyone complaining about these things particularly where the PS2 hair textures are concerned, clearly haven't paid attention to every single WWE game released since the PS2 days because those textures have been recycled every damn year! I've bought every WWE game up to 2K18 on release day since the THQ era (Smackdown! onwards)...and from PS1 to PS2 there was a discernable difference...but since the last PS2 game those hair textures have been the thorn in WWE games' side! I mean even in 2K18 where they overhauled the body textures and models so that the characters looked almost photo-realistic (apart from Dana Brook) they still retained those damn PS2 hair textures...so why has no one lost their rag over those textures in the ensuing years prior to this?
There have also been hilarious animation glitches year on year...and even collision detection issues...but yes a lot of those this year seem to be more pronounced than in previous iterations...but I wonder what has made this years offering so bad?
I mean throughout their original tenure, THQ habitually added and then removed existing game modes/creation suites just to reintroduce them a few years later under the guise of them being a 'brand new' addition...they weren't...and sometimes the 'new' version was worse than the first time around...and I don't think we've had 'Create a Finisher' in the whole of 2K's tenure?! I can't recall seeing it anyway?! and since the dawning of the previous console generation (Xbox360, PS3) I'm sure it isn't such a stretch to allow more than 7 slots on a PPV card yet it's taken 10 years to increase that to 14 matches...it beggars belief.
And 2K have this silly 'Big Head' mode which adds nothing to the game, but they had it in NBA so hey...we'll stick it in WWE as well...it serves NO purpose! I'm reminded of the WCW Thunder game on PS1 where THQ 'added' Aliens and Humanoid Insects as characters to wrestle because they had licence to do what they pleased...it wasn't great then either!
I picked up the Deluxe version of 2K19 around March last year (Mania season) for £30 quid...I like it...but the match card threshold frustrates me...also that you can't have a PPV on a Saturday...WWE have been doing that for how long now with NXT?! But that's because 2K like THQ pretend to listen to their fanbase...and mostly ignore what wrestling gamers truly want...which is a reasonable simulation of the TV product...and it appears that we've regressed once more (lest we forget the 2K15 sh*tshow)...maybe I'll wait for 2K20 Deluxe to come down in price...or wait to see what Yukes has in store with it's own new Wrestling game (whether it's an AEW tie-in or not)...they have produced some of the most iconic wrestling games in the past 30 years and will most likely continue to do so long after 2K fumble the WWE ball like THQ before them!
