I dig the Dune books so much that this blind and partisan love has even made room for me to:
- appreciate the batsh*t, vaudeville on ketamine and laughing gas David Lynch film, though begrudgingly because it's objectively a terrible film
- love unambiguously the so-definitely-made-in-the-early-aughts SyFy channel miniseries and its admirable treatment of Dune Messiah and Children of Dune thereafter.
Villeneuve's Dune--even though it only adapts the first 3rd of the novel--is astonishing on nearly every level and hits on virtually every beat. See it however you can as soon as you can. Call into question the ability of anyone--from the professional commentariat to the neckbearded naysayers--that finds it lacking.
