I was in elementary school when this movie came out and actually saw the movie while I was just starting the book. While it may be a decent fantasy, family-friendly movie to watch, I did not think it was good from it being a film adaptation. Although it had some impressive 3D action sequences, it just did not have clear development in my opinion. Now when I finished the book I realized that they might as well have been two different works that had the same title. The book series is phenomenal, but seeing the movie made me wonder if the creators ever READ the books entirely or they read it and figured they would try to make it their own leading to an underdeveloped narrative. The story had many missing elements that are important later in the series including: characters, entire chapters (I know it's very hard to include everything, but really?) and the correct ages; which I consider to be one of the most important details. One main idea the author, Rick Riordan, establishes in his books is the journey of a young boy growing up while conforming to the newfound weirdness of his father's side of the family. The movie pretty much cripples that idea by making him two years from legal adulthood age. While there could always be adjustments made to movies to make age less relevant, these options were not explored in this case. I'm going to finish my assessment here by saying I understand that it takes a lot of work to create and produce films, especially adaptations and I apologize to the creators for my harsh judgement, but I will just stick to the books.
