Okay so, this movie genuinely scared me. Below I'm going to list some pros and cons and then give my take. Pros: - Concept was great - The Jumpscares weren't cheap - The movie is good at ensuing dread Cons: - There were a bit "too many" jumpscares - There were some points that take you out of the groove - Some of the characters act just straight up dumb Now I've rated this movie five stars and have gone to see it TWICE in theatres because I liked it that much, I have not felt as much dread and genuine fear in a horror movie since insidious chapter 1 which I would argue this movie is scarier than. The Concept of a horrifying energy that stalks it's victims is no new concept, but the way it was applied in this movie they did an outstanding job of! Now before I continue I just want to say I am no professional critic but the movie genuinely had my on the edge of my seat, at one point it even managed to make me jump which hasn't happened in a very long time. With most modern horror being nothing more than cheap story with an even cheaper tag. This movie did something different, Now with all the positive out of the way lets move into the negative; firstly I love the build up but some of the jumpscares felt a bit out of place, I wont provide any examples as to not spoil the movie but it almost felt like there could've been more psychological horror elements considering the main character is a therapist. At some points where the CGI game into effect rather than adding on to the horror element it instead just sort of took me out of the whole horror feeling. An example of this would be the end, again not specifying as to not spoil but CGI could have been improved a bit. I feel like at some points in the movie the characters acted in ways that just seemed a little "stupid", in my opinion if I was dealing with some sort of malevolent entity I would immediately contact a church which the MC didn't do. I understand she may not have been a believer but even an atheist says "Oh my god" and in this situation whatever the hell I believed I'd be running to find a priest. Overall this movie in my eyes will recieve five stars, cause no movie isn't without it's flaws but this one earned this rating. Awesome plot, good scares, considering going to watch it in theatres one more time.
