An 80's classic, a movie made well before our current pc-culture climate. As such there is a good amount of swearing, (which I find realistic for chidren of that age), dick/sex jokes, and some bullying. Those easily offended may not enjoy it as much as the thicker skinned and older viewers looking back on fond memories of this movie like I did. You've been warned.
The jokes, although crude and un-pc, are still funny, the acting is well done from these future stars including Sean Aston, Josh Brolin, and Joey Joe Pantoliano, the set pieces still hold up well and the overall action, although at times unrealistic, is fast paced and is still thrilling. There is a great heart/message to the movie that these underdogs can work together and save their families. The value of friendship, family, loyalty and perseverance are also running themes.
Highly recommended for mature children (10+ otherwise), especially pirate lovers, and their parents. Unlike many children's movies of today, this movie won't bore you.
