Polanski’s masterpiece of pure horror. This amazing low budget film led to his next film, Rosemary’s Baby. There are more genuine scares in this one than all the silly Halloween and Chucky remakes put together. There’s several jump scares that are honest and motivated. A truly disturbing movie.

Before Alien there was this one. It’s a ponderous good/bad space thriller worth a look.

Anyone with a loving but flawed mom will be touched by Michelle Williams’ performance. And casting David Lynch as crusty John Ford was brilliant.

The finest Von Trier film ever. The folks who found this film boring should go back to watching sci-fi ripoffs.

Watch Pacino in this film, then watch him in Godfather Part Two. It’s amazing, the difference in those roles, and the way he embodies them.
