Sam is the man, and this movie honestly got shafted by critics. It may not ultimately convey an introspective message, and certainly not one that aligns itself with the moralistic, and moreover disingenuous nature of the entertainment industry. However, the acting is very strong, with not only the leads, but the supporting cast and tertiary characters as well. The comedy writing and dialogue is great, as Rockwell and Kendrick are very playful with their lines.
Mr.Right reminded me a lot of Grosse Pointe Blank, which isn’t surprising because of its similar premise, but nonetheless felt like its own film. The action is choreographed well, and it doesn’t take itself serious enough to lend the film to hackneyed plot devices and other clichés; even when it does use them. In conclusion, while it’s by no means cinema, this is a really fun movie. I implore you to not let something as tawdry as a critic’s opinion keep you from it.
