Ransom is one of my favourite novellas due to Malouf's earthly themes contributed to the small section of the Iliad. A favourite theme of mine is the deep-rooted desire for human connection demonstrated through Achilles (very similar to J. D. Salinger's Holden Caulfield from Cather in the Rye).
My favourite chapter would be where Priam encroaches on his own journey to appeal to Achilles as a father, rather than a king. Malouf's focus on exploring Priam's relationship with the carter exceeds expectation. His continuous theme of life is explored as each individual present here find their hardships and learn to accept it in their own ways.
