Young Royals is an excellent multilayered story that absolutely has to be continued for another season! Authentic and kind representation of teenagers played by very young diverse actors. A fast moving plot yet no unnecessary drama, LGBTQ representation without falling into tropes, incredibly well suited musical score that registered in my mind when others often don’t (I don’t have any musical abilities. Film scores mostly go unnoticed by me.. but in YR it’s an accessible part of the experience)
I have watched it about a dozen times since it came out, and every time I notice a detail I previously missed. Every scene is deliberate and is there for a reason, so a lot was said in the show in only six episodes.
Young Royals is also very beautiful visually, full of texture and colour.
The main appeal of YR for me is how much I can relate to how different themes are explored in this show, the authenticity of portrayal of a complex young mind, the difficulty of navigating high school years, the truth of how deeply things are felt, the lack of answers at that age, the search for personal truth. It is a densely packed, highly thought provoking show that pushes for more awareness of our privilege, daily decisions, relationships with others, use of social media, etc etc.
I wish all kinds of people watch it. From teenagers to their parents. I watched it with my 13 year old kid after first discovering it on my own.
