It's hard to empathize let alone understand a lead protagonist who is, let's put this the right way.. a complete moron. The choices the characters make in the film are truly exasperating up there with the worst teen horror films you can imagine. One of the things that annoys me about this film is the cynical way the filmmakers use sound and contrived plot turns in order to build suspense. It feels phony because it is phony. The one feature I thought the filmmakers did well with was the world they created - the diamond district in New York hence the 2 stars. Apart from that I didn't connect with the performances of the leads and thought Howie's breakdown scene was pathetic. Definitely not one of the best films of the year. Not even close.
