Season 1 was the best season. After that, the show seemed to spiral out of control with a weak and wandering plot.
It lost 2 major interests as far as I'm concerned-Cat Grant, who tied the characters together with her witty sarcasm, hidden caring and warmth and Maxwell Lord, the handsome villian who you hated to love.
Starting in season 2, Alex's coming out and Kara's relationship with Mon-el took precedence on screen, to a nauseating degree.
Quite frankly, I was glad to bid Mon-el goodbye. His character added nothing to the show-he was a colorless, wishy washy glorified groupie of Supergirl.Season 3 was entirely forgettable. There was no excitement in the plot, way too much relationship drama between Alex and Maggie (yet again) and Supergirl was just as predictable as season 2.
The TV 14 rating was unwarranted after season1. The show dealt with adult themes starting in season 2, including overly sexual scenes: there was no comic releif and the villians were predictable and unimaginative.
A transgender actress/actor won't save season 4. Only focus on the plot, good writing and tight story lines will revive it.
Take a page from the writers of Flash-each season is exciting, different and yet Barry remains the same person who evolves in every season.
I only tried to finish the series because I feel that female super heroes never get as much hype as their male counterparts.
But, alas, I give up...
