***spoiler alert***
My first thought upon finishing watching this film... erm... what?!
To be fair to the film I'm not going to compare it to the books as I'm pretty sure the only thing taken from them was names and places.
I'll try to start off with what was done well. The special effects were well portrayed for the most part, mulch's jaw unhinging, the time freeze getting put in place. The species were easily differentiated and you could tell what they were meant to be.
What went wrong...
The whole plot of this movie. My father has been kidnapped by fairies so I need to kidnap a fairy to get a dwarf to open a safe so I can get him back. How on earth is that cohesive? And what in this movie is meant to convince me that Artemis is a criminal mastermind apart from the fact that it's stated that he apparently is? All I saw was a kid reading someone else's notes, running around shouting for his dad, doing some typing and noticing an inaccuracy with a chair. Holly's and Artemis' relationship. Erm... I'm not sure how they became friends or decided to trust each other, very quick affect Stockholm syndrome? And was the whole point of mulch being arrested so he could explain the story to us?
Honestly this whole movie just felt a whole lot thrown together after a tonne had been cut out and has left me rather confused.
I think I'll pretend I never watched this.
