My wife (70), grandson (10), and I (73) watched and enjoyed this movie. Yes, the storyline was predictable, but so are so many of the feel-good movies we enjoy and that didn't take away anything at all. I loved the animation and was pleasantly surprised on looking at the cast, to see that the real actors looked like the people they represented on screen (though animated). Great diversity.
Obviously this was reflecting an alternate universe, in that women and women of color are depicted as active and strong members of a sailing ship's crew, with roles of importance and vitality. I liked that twist.
I liked too the thought that reflected that history is written by the winners and does NOT always reflect reality. The line, that "heroes do not always do the right thing" is something we all need to remember in our over-polarized, cancel culture age. Would that we could all give many of our heroes due for the good that they did, while recognizing that they were still fallible humans - enough preaching. This truth comes out well in The Sea Beast.
This was a fun movie, that we will watch and enjoy again with other grandkids. Well done Netflix
